The showroom floor · Chickpet, Bangalore
V. Sampangappa began with a single display of Kanjivaram silk on the pavements of Chickpet in 1944. What he understood -- that most merchants of his era did not -- was that a bridal saree is never just a garment. It is worn once, remembered forever, and passed between generations. That conviction built this house.
Eight decades later, Sudarshan Family Store is still a family business -- still on Chickpet Main Road, still choosing every weave by hand. Kanjivaram from the looms of Tamil Nadu. Banarasi from the banks of the Ganga. Dharmavaram from the weavers of Andhra. Each piece authenticated before it reaches the floor.
We carry pure silks -- not polyester blends, not fast-fashion approximations. Come to the showroom, feel the weight of the zari, hold the fabric to light. The difference is immediate.
We source directly. Every weave is authenticated before it enters the showroom. We list only what we carry -- and we carry only what we believe in.
Pure mulberry silk, heavy zari border, temple motifs. South India's bridal crown -- worn on the most auspicious mornings.
Woven on the banks of the Ganga -- brocade florals, gold-thread bootas, the saree that defines North Indian bridal tradition.
Lighter than Kanjivaram, richer than plain silk. Dharmavaram's contrast border and zari pallav make it a bridal favourite across South India.
GI-tagged, government-certified. Karnataka's own silk -- satiny drape, subdued sheen, and an understated luxury that photographs beautifully.
Woven with real gold or silver wire into the base fabric -- ethereal, luminous, and heavier than its delicate appearance suggests.
Double-ikat -- every thread dyed before weaving. The most labour-intensive silk tradition in India. One piece, months of craft.
Heavy zari, temple border, full pallav. The saree brides in Karnataka have chosen since before independence.
Gold-thread brocade, meenakari motifs, silk-on-silk weave. Woven over days, worn over generations.
Tissue silk, lighter Kanjivaram, Mysore silk -- chosen for the reception where the bride changes into something luminous.
Bridal lehengas in pure Kanjivaram and Banarasi brocade panels -- traditional weave, contemporary silhouette.
Silk-cotton, Tussar, Dharmavaram and crepe georgette for mothers, sisters, and the bridal party -- coordinated without being matched.
Contrast silk, matching zari, raw silk and brocade blouse pieces. The detail that completes the saree.
We have been sourcing directly from weavers for 82 years. We know the difference between pure mulberry silk and a machine-woven polyester. Come to the showroom. Feel it yourself.
