Chapter 01 -- The House

A silk house, opened once
in 1944. Still here.

No. 01 Story
Bridal silk draping -- Sudarshan Family Store, Chickpet The showroom floor · Chickpet, Bangalore

More than a
shopping destination.

V. Sampangappa began with a single display of Kanjivaram silk on the pavements of Chickpet in 1944. What he understood -- that most merchants of his era did not -- was that a bridal saree is never just a garment. It is worn once, remembered forever, and passed between generations. That conviction built this house.

Eight decades later, Sudarshan Family Store is still a family business -- still on Chickpet Main Road, still choosing every weave by hand. Kanjivaram from the looms of Tamil Nadu. Banarasi from the banks of the Ganga. Dharmavaram from the weavers of Andhra. Each piece authenticated before it reaches the floor.

We carry pure silks -- not polyester blends, not fast-fashion approximations. Come to the showroom, feel the weight of the zari, hold the fabric to light. The difference is immediate.

Tamil Nadu

Pure mulberry silk, heavy zari border, temple motifs. South India's bridal crown -- worn on the most auspicious mornings.

Tissue
Silk

Tamil Nadu / Banaras

Woven with real gold or silver wire into the base fabric -- ethereal, luminous, and heavier than its delicate appearance suggests.

Patola
Silk

Gujarat

Double-ikat -- every thread dyed before weaving. The most labour-intensive silk tradition in India. One piece, months of craft.
